Disclosing your HIV-positive status means telling someone else that you have HIV. Disclosing your HIV status to another person is often difficult, whether it's a sexual partner, someone you inject drugs with, a friend, family member, employer or anyone else you decide to tell. There are some instances where the law requires you to disclose your HIV+ status.

When do I have to disclose?

You don’t have to disclose your HIV status to anyone unless you’re participating in activities that may put others at risk. There are some things you need to know about the law and disclosing your HIV+ status if you’re having sex or sharing drug equipment.

Disclosing Your HIV Positive Status

Telling someone that you're HIV positive is not easy. There is no one way to disclose your HIV+ status. It may be hard at first but it will get easier after awhile. Those of us who work at RHAC have a lot of experience, some firsthand, talking about disclosure. Talk to us!
